Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
In 1986, Gérard Lefebvre founded a soup kitchen which provides aid twice weekly to about one hundred people in need. He also collects food, clothing, groceries, beds and other items. A former board member of the Carrefour d'entraide and member of the Lachine municipal housing bureau, Mr. Lefebvre also founded the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society in the 1950s, the St-André-Hubert Golden Age Club in 1976 and the school lunch program in 1985. In addition, he has organized a number of pilgrimages, dinners, lectures and fundraisers for the community.
