Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A police officer, over the past decade Hugh Muir has been a Cadet Instructor and a longtime member of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Maritime Militaria Society. He regularly helps veterans to access their service records. In his volunteer work with the Cadets, he has used his own vacation to supervise their activities and is a key volunteer fund-raiser for many community organizations. He has shown exceptional concern and dedication to his community, above and beyond his job, and is known to befriend victims of crime, caring for them as if they were part of his own family.
