Elly Arnold, Surrey, British Columbia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Mrs. Arnold has been involved in the community for more than 34 years. She has contributed many years of service as a behind-the-scenes, anonymous volunteer for the Surrey Crisis Line and the drop-in programme providing face-to-face counselling. Over the years, she has been invited to apply for various staff positions, but has always declined -- preferring to remain an unpaid contributor in the community. Her volunteer experience also extends to the Brownies and Girl Guides, the Surrey Little Theatre and the Surrey Crisis Flying Squad. In all her volunteer work, she is known as a person of integrity and compassion who is dedicated to helping others.
