Eva Johanna Lamb, Ottawa, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Eva Johanna Lamb has always worked tirelessly to redress inequities in Ottawa's west end. She taught Sunday school for many years and frequently helped with rummage sales, bazaars and parish events. Mrs. Lamb negotiated with local grocery stores to arrange and coordinate regular pickups of dated foods that would otherwise have been discarded, delivering the items to individuals and food centres. She also spends several days a week gathering unwanted furniture and appliances, storing the items in her garage and distributing them to people in need. In addition to these endeavours, Mrs. Lamb finds the time to drive people to doctors' appointments and assists them in applying for community services.
