Josef-Alfons Jalink, Blue River - Kamloops, British Columbia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Josef-Alfons Jalink has established many community projects including Eleanor Lake Park and Beach, a school playground and a skating rink shelter. A long-serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion and several Lions Clubs, he was also an R.C.M.P. auxiliary officer for 24 years. In 1985, he served as the first president of the AIDS Society of Kamloops and has supported a number of individuals in the final stages of AIDS-related illnesses. Mr. Jalink cares for neighbouring seniors, driving them to the doctor and checking on them during the winter. Whether adding to his city's recreational facilities or demonstrating compassion and concern for fellow residents, Mr. Jalink is a good neighbour and an asset to his community.
