Raymond Karl Heeringa, Sarnia, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A firefighter for 25 years, Raymond Heeringa has gone above and beyond the call of duty. He has been involved for more than 13 years with the Sarnia-Lambton Rebound, an organization providing programming for youth at risk. Mr. Heeringa also shares his time with the Lambton Christian School Society where he serves as board member and participant in various committees. He was a primary force in restarting the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team for firefighters, an organization that provides counselling for firefighters after a traumatic incident. More recently, he volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors for Huron House Boys' Home. Mr. Heeringa has touched the lives of hundreds of youth and their families in his community.
