Reginald Elmer Barton Godsoe, Moncton, New Brunswick
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A veteran of the Second World War, Reginald Godsoe has been actively involved in his community. In 1990, as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Godsoe began visiting veterans in hospital and eventually became a member of the Moncton Hospital Pastoral Care Service. His visits not only bring cheer to the patients but also comfort to their families. He averages between 500 to 600 hospital visits per year and not even a serious medical condition was able to deter him from his visits as he made his way around in a wheelchair. Mr. Godsoe is a very active member of his church, participating as a lay reader, a member of the Brothers of the Loaves, and organizing church dinners and fundraisers.
