Doreen Johnston, Sundre, Alberta
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Since 1947, Doreen Johnston has participated wholeheartedly in her community. For 50 years, she has been involved with the Royal Purple, an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting services in the community. She has been a member of the Sundre Legion Auxiliary since 1950 and participated on the Sundre Hospital Board for nine years until 1995. She also helped establish the Mountain View Palliative Care Association in 1992 and regularly visits long-term care and palliative-care patients at the Hospital. Mrs. Johnston has contributed to her community through her church, as well as many organizations and projects.
