Harriet Johnson, Fruitvale, British Columbia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For many years, Harriet Johnson has been helping friends and strangers in her community. Even now, in her 90s, Harriet Johnson rides the bus to Trail Hospital to help feed patients who cannot manage on their own. She travelled to Saskatchewan to nurse an ailing friend until she passed away. Mrs. Johnson also cared for another friend, in her own home, until she was moved to a nursing home. She then visited her friend every day until she died. Countless others, over the years, have enjoyed Mrs. Johnson's warm smile, encouraging words and compassion.
