Marlene Baldwin, Ridgetown, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than 30 years, Marlene Baldwin has canvassed in her community for the Canadian Cancer Society and, in the last 15 years, for the Heart and Stroke Foundation as well as the Alzheimer Society. Mrs. Baldwin's care and concern for her community is evident in her personal attention to a number of very senior individuals. She visits them regularly, reads them their mail, answers it when necessary, drives them to doctors' appointments, and gets groceries for them. The ongoing care and attention Mrs. Baldwin provided, both day and night, to an elderly neighbour, enabled her to remain in her own home until her death in her 99th year.
