Dorothy Alberta Shier, Cunnington, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

At an early age, Dorothy Shier began giving her time to her community. She has been active with the 4-H Association for more than 35 years and is now its provincial director. She has participated in the Canada World Youth and the Labo International Exchange Foundation, hosting exchange students and their chaperones. A Sunday school teacher, she has been actively involved in her church for over thirty years. Mrs. Shier is the past-president and long-time member of the Sunderland Agricultural Fall Fair. One of Mrs. Shier's most cherished activities is her involvement with the Barnardo organization where she organizes reunions of the "home children", orphans sent to Canada in the early 1900s.
