Martha Caroline Benjamin, Old Crow, Yukon Territory
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A national ski champion in 1963, Martha Benjamin has been as devoted to her community as to her skiing. A long-time volunteer at the local ski club, she has dedicated much time and effort to reactivating sports and children's programs, and to cutting and grooming ski trails for young skiers. In addition, she finds the time to cook and clean for funerals, dances and community events, and has also been an active member of her church. Mrs. Benjamin has been an integral part of her isolated community for forty years.
