Al MacLean, Calgary, Alberta
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Al MacLean's commitment to the community began with his involvement in the Calgary, Alberta and National Home Builders Associations, and the establishment of Canada's first New Home Warranty Program. He then turned his attention to another segment of the population and founded the Sleep Apnea Society of Alberta in 1988. Through his voluntarism with this organization and the Alberta Lung Association, he has worked to support respiratory research, to increase awareness of sleep apnea and to ensure the availability of treatment.
