    Mary Margaret Mullins, Rencontre East, Newfoundland Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Since completing a first-aid course in the mid-1970s, Margaret Mullins has served the residents of remote Rencontre East, Newfoundland as a modern-day Florence Nightingale. A volunteer liaison between the community and the medical staff of the nearest hospital, she has treated almost every imaginable medical condition, from cuts to heart attacks. She has selflessly devoted countless hours and days to ministering to those in need, freely offering them her support, encouragement and care.
