Hélène Siouï, Wendake, Quebec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than 40 years, Hélène Siouï has dedicated herself to enhancing the quality of life of people with Prader-Willi Syndrome, which causes severe cognitive impairment, as well as improving the social services available to them. Through her strong will, Ms. Siouï was able to convince the Centre hospitalier de Charlevoix to create a special residence for people with this syndrome, changing the lives of many Quebecers and helping them integrate into the community. For 10 years, she has given her time to the Agoshin Counter, distributing food and clothing to disadvantaged families in the Huron-Wendat community. A proud and dignified cultural ambassador for the Huron-Wendat Aboriginal community of Wendake, Ms. Siouï likes to share and promote the richness and values of her people's culture.
