Mary Lynne Willbond, Saanichton, British Columbia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A caring nurse, Lynne Willbond has been committed to the most disadvantaged in East Africa for the last six years. She helped her husband start ICROSS Canada (International Community for the Relief of Starvation and Suffering), for which she has been the accountant, acting business manager and medical advisor. She has also helped gather, pack and ship over 6 000 pounds of medical supplies and has helped deliver them to the hospitals and clinics in Kenya. In addition, Mrs. Willbond knits dolls to use as a cushion for fragile supplies and to give to HIV-AIDS orphans or to children in war-torn countries. Her daily efforts and untiring commitment make a significant difference to a large number of suffering victims.
