Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Since 1977, Benoit Lemonde has been a volunteer in his parish and with various organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart Foundation, United Way, Operation Red Nose, a youth hostel and Scouts Canada, in particular. He has been group leader of the First Marine Corps of the Longueuil Scouts since 1978, where he has the distinction of having constructed a 45-foot metal sailboat. For three summers he coordinated the activities of more than fifty volunteers, including a 29-day voyage of adventure on the Saint Lawrence with a dozen young people between the ages of twelve and seventeen.
