Marcel Racine, Beauport, Quebec (posthumous)
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Throughout his life, Marcel Racine eagerly and enthusiastically performed extraordinary services, not only within his own community but also throughout Quebec and even overseas. In 1972, Mr. Racine created the Tourbillons de Beauport, a children's folk dance troupe. He taught them compassion and consideration through the many performances he produced with them for the elderly and the sick. Later, many of the young people he trained followed his example and became involved in the community. Mr. Racine was also involved in many groups and associations. Children, disadvantaged families, people with disabilities and people who simply needed a place to stay have all benefited from his great generosity and creativity.
