    Mary Josephine Mahoney, Campbellford, Ont. Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Mary-Jo Mahoney has consistently gone beyond the duties of her position as librarian at an elementary school to create teaching projects that promote cooperation, understanding and appreciation for people everywhere. She also cleared and designed the first self-guiding trail for the Trent Severn Waterway and, in 1996, took a leave of absence from her position to voluntarily produce an educational manual for Petroglyphs Provincial Park to introduce Aboriginal culture and traditions to young people. Miss Mahoney also offers friendship and help to local senior citizens, helps local youth to secure jobs, and finds new homes for abused and abandoned animals.
