Shirley Gibb embraced volunteer activities in her community that involved young children and expressed her love of music. She was gifted in understanding the learning and self-esteem needs of young children and became an effective motivational speaker for teachers during her association with Music for Young Children. In addition to her involvement with the Girl Guides of Canada as a leader for many years, Mrs. Gibb also continuously volunteered with her church, teaching Sunday school classes, directing the children's ministries, as well as singing in the choir.
