Michel Grégoire, Sainte-Julienne, Quebec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than 25 years, Michel Grégoire has worked as a volunteer on the telethon for research into children's diseases. He began modestly enough by calling people in his municipality in order to raise funds. He now heads a team of volunteers who work from a call centre he set up some 13 years ago. Even more remarkable is the fact that Mr. Grégoire suffers from brittle bones and has to be moved in a stretcher. This has not stopped him from giving workshops throughout Quebec to help telethon volunteers organize their fundraising activities. Mr. Grégoire's dedication to the cause of childhood diseases has brought relief to sick children.
