Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For the past 20 years, Valorie Clarke has committed her energies to fundraising for a cure for diabetes. Serving as president, she revitalized the Elmira Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association, making it one of the Association's leading per capita fundraisers. She also organized the first annual Flame of Hope Trail & Carriage Ride, a one-day event held on the Clarke family farm, in order to raise funds for diabetes research. With the help of over 100 volunteers, Mrs. Clarke has coordinated this successful event for the past 12 years, and is promoting the concept to other cities in Ontario.
