Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Jaring Timmerman has selflessly devoted himself to his community's well-being for 30 years. At his church, he has been a Sunday school teacher and has lent his support to a number of committees and boards. Mr. Timmerman was a valued member and six-year Chair of the Grace General Hospital Board. For many years, he was also an active member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board and frequently visited ailing and disadvantaged members of his community, offering comfort and encouragement. At the age of 93, Mr. Timmerman is an avid competitive swimmer, and speaks at schools and seniors' groups to encourage people of all ages to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
