Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A former social worker, Dennis Gibson is an active member of the Canmore Rotary Club. Since his retirement in 1990, he has initiated and contributed to many community programs, especially youth projects, and has volunteered with seniors. He has also personally built and maintained outdoor hockey rinks and tennis courts. In 1995, he organized the World Masters Ski Championships gala banquet for 2 000 guests. Since 1990, he has chaired the Canmore Canada Day celebrations, now considered among the best in Alberta. The sole fundraiser for the event, he coordinates the work of 200 volunteers and oversees the day-long activities, which now attract some 4 000 visitors from outside the community.
