Ronald Evans

As a hockey coach, Ronald Evans saw that members of his team were starting to experiment with drugs and alcohol. In response, he launched the Try Hugs-Not Drugs program and created a mascot named Huggy Lion. Over the years, as Huggy, he brought his message to schools throughout Fredericton. He is also one of the founding members of the Portage Atlantic youth addictions rehabilitation centre and has been active with the Nashwaaksis Lions Club since 1968.
