Chris Backer promotes the legal use of cannabis as a volunteer with Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana. He has traveled throughout Nova Scotia to advocate the need to study cannabis as medicine. He also gives of his time to the Nova Scotia Burn Support Group, and opens his own home as an outreach program for those who are depressed due to chronic illness or pain.
