Leo MacNeil is a master craftsman. For more than six decades, he has been designing and building custom wood furniture by hand, as well as creating sculptures in wood, stone and cement. Many of his works, notably at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, are 17th-century period pieces he crafted using the traditional methods from that era, without nails or modern tools. As founder of the Cape Breton Woodcrafters Association, he continues to pass on his techniques to the next generation of woodworkers.
