A true "doctor without borders", John Lewis has consistently worked to provide care for people at home and abroad. A family physician in Newfoundland for more than 30 years, he established numerous community-based medical services in remote areas of his province. He has provided leadership and guidance to generations of medical students and physicians at Memorial University, and helped create innovative training programs such as the Family Practice Discipline. Throughout his career, and even in retirement, he has undertaken numerous locums in remote clinics in Newfoundland, as well as in several African nations.
