Sterling Lyon has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the people of Manitoba. As a cabinet minister, premier and judge, he was renowned for his integrity and tireless dedication to serving the interests of his fellow citizens. As premier, he extended social services for the elderly and for low-income families, expanded community-based health services, and modernized governmental financial procedures. As well, he played a key role in the deliberations that led to the patriation of the Canadian Constitution. In addition to serving as a former justice of the provincial Court of Appeal, he has also championed environmental conservation as a member of various provincial and national wildlife federations.
