A renowned geophysicist, he has played a key role in the development of the theory of plate tectonics. He founded two world-class facilities - the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing and the Institute for Space and Terrestrial Science at York University. Recognizing the importance of remote sensing to our country's mapping, resource development and environmental monitoring, he is truly one of Canada's outstanding scientists.
