Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, he played a fundamental role in the medical school's evolution into a first-class teaching and research centre. An expert in the treatment of breathing disorders, he discovered and perfected a controlled method of delivering oxygen through the use of a specially designed mask. This invention has been a major breakthrough which has saved countless lives. In addition, his extensive research has increased our understanding of the body's respiratory system.
