A recognized authority on Acadian history, she has published several books on the role of women in history, as well as a chronicle of the National Council of Women. The first female Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Carleton University, she played a key role in the incorporation of Women's Studies into the doctoral history program. Her life and work are an ongoing inspiration to Canadian women.
