Annie Manning is renowned throughout Nunavut as an outstanding educator and community leader. An interpreter and Cape Dorset's first Native teacher, she is a strong champion of Inuit traditions and shares her passion with students and others seeking knowledge about the culture of the North. Also the first Inuk woman Justice of the Peace on Baffin Island, she was also a member of the Community Justice Committee, providing advice about the law and promoting new sentencing experiments. Admired for her strength of character and determination, she is an inspiration to youth and adults alike.
