She is one of Canada's best-known breast cancer survivors. Responding to her own diagnosis and the loss of her mother, she launched the Comfort Heart initiative which has raised a million dollars for cancer research. These small pewter hearts symbolize hope to countless Canadians whose lives have been touched by cancer. A former vice-president of Bell Canada, she also worked for more than two decades to raise awareness and funds for worthwhile causes in Toronto, including shelters and drop-in centres for the homeless.
