A career diplomat, he enhanced Canada's role and standing in the international community. He has served as High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador to the North Atlantic Council and Ambassador for Disarmament. An expert on Asian affairs, he cultivated and improved Sino-Canadian relations as our representative to the People's Republic of China. He continues, in retirement, to promote awareness of Chinese culture and has made generous donations of archeological research materials and Chinese artifacts to cultural and educational institutions.
