She began her lifetime of service as a physician in northern Ontario in the 1930s, long before modern amenities were commonplace. Undaunted by the frontier environment, she travelled great distances using primitive modes of transportation including self-propelled railway carts. Active in a variety of volunteer roles within the community, she was a founding member of the Newmarket Home Service to Seniors, which fosters autonomy and provides an alternative to institutional care.
