As a rancher, writer and local government councillor, he has made important contributions to the rural life of Saskatchewan. He has served in many capacities with the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and the Canadian Cattlemen's Association where he was a spokesperson for producers of cattle, sheep and grain. In addition, he helped plan and build Waverly Gardens, a popular skating and curling rink for the community.
