Anna Kaljas has always had as her main concern the welfare of those in trouble: the mentally and physically disabled, discharged prisoners, addicts and those who could not help themselves. In her five boarding-houses in Kitchener, she has cared for several dozen at a time, found them work and fought for their rights, thereby helping them to regain their self-respect and giving them hope.
