Professor of Sociology at Memorial University, he has played a key role in promoting and strengthening economic growth in Newfoundland and Labrador. He chaired or co-chaired numerous provincial economic development initiatives, including the Royal Commission on Employment and Unemployment, the Economic Recovery Commission and the Task Force on Community Economic Development. He has shown exemplary leadership and an unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life of his fellow citizens.
