A respected educator, historian and author, he has been a tireless advocate for human rights and for multiculturalism. He served as Executive Director of Nova Scotia's Human Rights Commission and as a member of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. A former Director of the province's Black Cultural Centre, he is currently President of the Canada Day Committee for Nova Scotia. His dedication, his leadership and his experience in improving race relations have been invaluable to the greater understanding and appreciation of the Canadian cultural mosaic.
