For his contributions as a historian, author and administrator who has expanded our knowledge and understanding of Canada’s rich political heritage.
John English has enhanced our knowledge of the people and events that have shaped our history. Executive director of the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History at the University of Toronto, he is an eminent historian renowned for his writing, notably his award-winning biographies of Lester Pearson and Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Committed to public service, he has thoughtfully led institutions and initiatives that promote history, research and dialogue, such as the Centre for International Governance Innovation and the Dictionary of Canadian Biography.

Professor of History and Political Science and Director of the Centre on Foreign Policy and Federalism at the University of Waterloo, he has, through his writings, contributed to the knowledge and understanding of our rich political heritage. Demonstrating strong leadership in his profession and in his community, he shares his knowledge and expertise through his involvement in professional organizations and public and private institutions. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and a board member of the Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre and the C.D. Howe Foundation
