A Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, she has devoted her life to the study of human genetics. Over the years, her research has focussed on the important relationship between medical technology and ethics. As Chair of the Royal Commission on New Reproductive Technologies, she provided a forum for debate on the sensitive issues surrounding the medical, scientific and legal aspects of artificial reproduction. A contributor to science, public policy and the advancement of women, she is widely admired by physicians around the world.
