Highly respected for his understanding of complex international issues, he has had a distinguished diplomatic career, most notably as an advisor on arms control and disarmament and as Canada's Ambassador to the Soviet Union. He was Executive Director of the former Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security and is currently President of the United Nations Association of Canada. Active within many non-governmental organizations, he continues to promote and to advance international cooperation in Canada and abroad.
