One of Canada's outstanding scientists, he is a professor in the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research at the University of Toronto and Principal Investigator at the Canadian Genetic Diseases Network. He has earned an international reputation for his work on the regulation of calcium in muscle and the genetic basis for diseases that affect this process. The recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Gairdner Foundation International Award, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London and a Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
