      An acclaimed documentary filmmaker, he has greatly contributed to the cultural life of our country. His celebration of Canadian artists has brought their talents to the attention of audiences at home and abroad. As well, his insightful rendering of Canadian historical events has cast a light on the complexities of our past, notably as depicted in The Spies Who Never Were and The War Against the Indians. His films have been translated into 30 languages and he has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Margaret Collier Award for lifetime achievement from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
