    As Canada's Chief Statistician, he has continued to build upon the high standards and international reputation he established for Statistics Canada, which remains the world's leading national statistical institute. As Chairman of the Executive Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians, his efforts have led to improved relations between key international statistical agencies, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Eurostat and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. He is the first Canadian to be elected an Honorary Member of the International Statistics Institute. This is a promotion within the Order.
