He has devoted a lifetime to the labour movement. He has advised prominent international trade union leaders in Canada, the United States and Europe, and represented labour on various panels and commissions sponsored by the United Nations' International Labour Organization. The author of many articles and book chapters, he has also been a professor of economics, industrial relations, political science and sociology at Canadian universities. He has energetically promoted worker training, social justice and seniors' rights.
