A respected historian and the first woman president of the Canadian Historical Association, she was a pioneer of women academics at the University of British Columbia, a front-rank scholar and a much-loved teacher. Throughout her long career she contributed immensely to the education of generations of students and encouraged the public's appreciation of local history.
