From her early career as a magazine writer, her accounts of life in small communities in various parts of the country have become a valuable resource for social historians. She is also a continuing presence in our kitchens and around our dining tables through her internationally popular cookbooks. This remarkable woman is a mentor to young writers for whom an award for creative non-fiction was established in her name at Wilfrid Laurier University.
