For more than twenty-five years, he represented his constituency in Newfoundland with distinction, first as a Member of Parliament and later as a Senator. Best known for his role as a vanguard of veterans' rights during his tenure as chairman of a senate sub-committee, he was untiring in his quest to improve programs and benefits for veterans and has done much to perpetuate the memory of their contribution.
